Community

Across all our projects in Cambridge, we are bringing tangible benefits to the local community in the form of new jobs, training opportunities, volunteering hours, and by creating more sustainable places that everyone can enjoy. Our investment in each project will also deliver a meaningful boost to the local economy. We are committed to creating a better world for all – it’s part of our purpose to secure our members’ future.

Engaging with the community

To help inform what we do in Cambridge, we actively and regularly engage with the local community, gaining opinions and insight from a diverse range of residents, organisations, and other interested parties. These are the people who call Cambridge home, who actively contribute to the community, and who we want to thrive.

That’s why we’re partnering with experts like Social Value Portal to actively measure what we deliver to the community. We are also working with organisations such as Cambridge Youth Panel, Cambridge Science Centre, Make Space for Girls, and Form the Future to support young people by enhancing their futures. And we’re collaborating with existing community groups to find new ways to support communities in the area.

Delivering value, locally

Skills and employment

Throughout the construction phase and into the long-term future of our projects in Cambridge, we’ll create the opportunity for upwards of 3,000 jobs locally. This includes apprenticeships, training programmes and green skills (to support a sustainable and resource-efficient society) which will create yet more opportunities for local people.

Railpen Community Workshop

Community and inclusion

As part of our commitment to achieve significant social value in Cambridge, we’ll deliver over 3,400 volunteering hours to local causes and not-for-profit organisations. We’ll prioritise and support local small to medium-sized enterprises and protect jobs for underserved communities to create better outcomes for local people as well as places.
